How to (not) lose a guy in thirty minutes (Flyte)

Their sweets stashed safely in a bag next to their table, Oryn and Flyte sat down at the Three Broomsticks to eat. Oryn waited until their menus were brought over before he returned to the subject they'd been on. "Now... you have until my food is finished. After that... well, you're just going to have to get used to me," he said with a little smile.

[Flyte Vance]

'See that wall over there?' Flyte pointed casually. 'That was the one I got thrown into by a girl I had never met because I felt compelled to help her Half-druid/animagus boyfriend when he was trying to obliterate the world with a snowstorm...'

She looked at the menu. Her finger traced along the items and she pretended to be reading it.

[Oryn Vance]

"While that makes me want to find this girl and learn what deep dark secrets she has that I can spill to the whole village, that seems to hardly be related to the subject at hand." He glanced across the table at her, quirking an eyebrow. "Unless you've changed your mind. I'm more than happy to not have you try to convince me."

[Flyte Vance]

'If I don't at least try then when it all backfires I will know its all totally my fault..'

Flyte looked at him earnestly, her hair falling dark around her shoulders, fringe in her eyes, her hands folding the menu automatically and putting it aside.

'We both know I am not normal. Far from it. My childhood was a lot different from yours, you will realise how insane I am sooner or later.. it won't be cute or endearing very long..' she sighed knowing they had just had this very conversation. 'I will probably die soon... so you don't want to get attached... besides your parents wouldn't approve of someone like me.. I am not even Slytherin!'

[Oryn Vance]

"All right... one thing to get out of the way quickly? The hell with my parents," he said. "They don't enter into consideration on this. Now... could we please back up to the 'probably die soon' part? I'd like to hear that part first so that I can pay attention to anything else you might have to say without my attention being divided."

[Flyte Vance]

'You saw me Oryn, in the window... all I could think of was jumping, soaring, flying - no matter the consequence... the sky calls to me and I fear I will answer.'

'I don't want to die, don't get me wrong - I'm not some sad little girl out for attention.' Flyte paused. 'Its so much more complex than that. All my life I have been around shifters, people who could be whatever they desired. It wasn't something that was mine. I longed for, ached for and dreamt of flying. Until I was given the gift of shifting by a.. friend. For a short time, I could fly.. really fly... but I failed to keep up my end of the bargain and it was taken away from me. He wasn't happy. I fell off a cliff, not too high but high enough to break my legs...'

Flyte put her head in her hands and groaned.

'I am NOT some emo with a need for an attention fix. I don't want it too seem like that - I never want you to think that...'

[Oryn Vance]

"Given that you have my attention without any of those cries for attention, I wouldn't have even considered that," Oryn said, taking this all in. "So... you're just afraid that some day, you won't be able to stop yourself and you really will jump, trying to fly?" He paused, then added, "I suppose that using a broom is out of the question?"

[Flyte Vance]

'heh. We didn't get to the best bit.' Flyte ran her hand through her hair and watched Oryn's face. 'As soon as I enter his realm he starts calling me. I can very barely resist. When Jurrell and I were leaping through the air, well he was carrying me.. anyway, it was enough to gain His attention... My life will be forfeit to Him someday Oryn. It was His before I met him and he intends to claim it.'

[Oryn Vance]

"Well, who is 'he', because I don't believe that anyone can own someone's life. And, frankly, I don't intend to let him, if this is true," he said, the certainty in his voice never faltering. "If it is a spell, then it can be broken. If it is a curse, it can be countered. And if it's something else... well, that can be dealt with in time, too." Oryn wasn't by any means a master of mind charms, but he knew a great deal about them. If there was a compulsion put on Flyte before she came to England... well, that's something that could always be dealt with. Difficultly, of course, but it could still be done.

[Flyte Vance]

'I'm not sure if it works the same way as a normal curse, for the most part I don't think about it really. Its something in my head that is always there. I just don't think its fair to anyone who wants to be a part of my life not to know about it i guess.. especially if they want to be..' Flyte trailed away.

[Oryn Vance]

"Well, however it works, there has to be some way that it works. And really... what better place to figure it out than a school of magic."

He stopped eating and reached across the table, grasping her hand. "If it means I need to keep an eye on you and catch you when you start leaning out windows, then I suppose that I'll need to do that. And if some day you turn into a little bird and fly south, well..." He shrugged. "I've always thought that it would be nice to see Africa."

[Flyte Vance]

Flyte sighed, both happy and frustrated. Oryn really wasn't taking her seriously here but she was glad he proved to her he wasn't the sort of guy to just stand up and walk away. She squeezed his hand and smiled.

'You realise you are going to have to start killing anyone that looks at us the wrong way or using your funky mind powers, in order to get me to believe you belong in Slytherin.' she shook her head laughing. 'and if I am going to run away - I promise to let you know. Somehow.'

[Oryn Vance]

Oryn chuckled slightly. "Even a Slytherin has to have someone he isn't horrible to. Little Slytherins have to come from someplace, after all." His eyes hardened a bit. "And believe me, dear little hummingbird... if one day I find that someone across a continent has made a grab for you, however successful or unsuccessful it may be, I'll do my house proud in what I do to him in return."

[Flyte Vance]

The hardness in his eyes wasn't something that scared her at all, Flyte trusted Oryn and actually thought it made him look even more handsome.

'Hmmm well I think baby snakes is getting kind of ahead of the game a little...' Flyte laughed. 'but I will store that away for later. What about someone on this continent though?' She tapped him on the end of the nose and laughed again, teasing Oryn was something that she was really getting used too.

"I'd have to travel much less to make my house proud," he answered, just a hint of amusement touching the hard look in his eyes. "Make no mistakes... I'm a very jealous man. And... well, we'll just say that I won't shed any tears over those people when bad things coincidentally happen to them." The only saving grace for that boy from her house, Joshua, had been that he'd been trying not to upset Mary during the party. He almost welcomed the opportunity to show how possessive he could be.
