Harley walked through the courtyard trying to find something to get into. She was bored, extremely bored. The rain fell fast and hard, soaking her to the bone, but she just ignored it.
She stopped dead center in the middle of the courtyard, placing her hands on her hips. Sighing, she looked around. So much boredom, she didn't know what to do. With a pouting look on her face, she plopped down on the ground, attempting to blow a piece of wet hair from her eyes.

Isabella watched amused by the blonde girls antics. Isabella was sitting under a tree not to far from the girl, reading a book. A spell placed on her so she wouldn't get wet. The girl was human, she would probably get sick from the rain. Isabella didn't understand how they could do that. Shaking her head, Isabella looked back at her book. It was on potions. She was trying to figure out why she did so hopeless at them. Turning back to look at the girl, Isabella decided it was much more interesting to watch.

Rain was a force of nature... and one thing Phoenix's grandmother had managed to get pounded into his head is that some forces of nature exist for only one reason: to be tamed or conquered.
True, it wasn't a monsoon or a tornado, but it still was good practice. As Phoenix walked from the castle, he waved his wand silently, causing a jet of flame to erupt from it. Under his mental commands, the flame strengthened and shaped itself over his head.
From there, it was simply a matter of willpower. As long as Phoenix could remain focused and keep his will strong, the flames held, and the rain sizzled and steamed as it struck it, keeping him dry beneath (not to mention quite warm). This was, of course, easier said than done... which was why he practiced it now as he walked down the path, not noticing either girl where they sat yet.

Something had caught Harley's attention. Flames, fire, whatever you wanna call it, it being caused by a wand. Giving up on trying to fix her soaked hair, she got up and approached the boy doing it.
"Nice trick, but being out in the rain isn't as much fun when you're dry," she said with a slight smile on her face.

Phoenix considered what she said, then nodded. "Perhaps. But this is much more comfortable than being wet. Or cold." As he spoke, he glanced up at the flames above him, and a tendril grew out of it. It formed a loop at the end, like a lasso, then passed down around Harley, from her head down to her feet, then back up again. She wasn't so much as singed, it wasn't close enough to her for that, but it did give a pleasant, warm feeling as it passed.

"Warmth, it's okay. But right now, I prefere the cold wet feeling the rain gives me. It makes me calm down, especially after my little temper tantrum yesterday in class," Harley said, sounding disappointed in herself.

Phoenix gave a little smile at that. "Well, I believe that Professor Kerr just has a knack for bringing out the best in everyone," he said, just a hint of sarcasm in his voice. "He has such a... warm, caring, parental demeaner, after all."

Isabella looked upon the pair now, smiling as she saw that the guy next to the girl was Phoenix. Though it slightly faulted when she gazed at the flames. She didn't like fire, of any kind. Magical or muggle. Putting her book into her bag, Isabella brought her knees up towards her chest, hugging them. She had not been noticed yet , she had yet to decide if that was a good thing. Turning her head, Isabella chose to gaze at the rain as it fell and listen.

Harley smirked. "The man is just a prick, okay. Always has been and always will be," she said. "But that was no excuse for yesterday. I just need to learn to control my temper better, that's all."
She looked around and noticed somebody sitting under a tree. Harley waved at her, and turned back to Phoenix. "So, why are you out wandering around?"

"Yes, you probably should have. Quiet insurgence always seems to produce fewer counterattacks than open rebellion," Phoenix remarked with a little more of a smile. "And I'm outside because I can't do this inside," he said, nodding up at the sheet of flame still hovering over him. "Or rather, I could, but it wouldn't be any sort of challenge to do it."

Reaching up her sleeve, Harley pulled out her wand and pointed it at the flames. "So would it be even much more of a challenge if I happen to just put those flames out?" she asked him with a raised eyebrow.

Phoenix quirked an eyebrow and considered this. "Yes, it would... if you could put them out." He didn't seem to be taunting her, he was just making it a simple statement of fact. His grandmother had taught him well when she'd taught him to touch the flames. He knew he'd get wet in the process, but he also knew that he could work around an extinguishing spell, at the very least making his fire hard to put out. He shrugged. "Try it if you like."

Slowly Isabella got up, grabbing her book bag. She looked across towards the two again and silently made her way towards them. She was pretending there was no fire, it would easier for her this way. Stopping, Isabella smiled. She had heard what the girl had said. Wondering how this would turn out.

Harley looked as if she was racking her memory for a charm. But she wasn't going to even try. Raising her wand, she performed a simple nonverbal freezing charm on the flame. When it didn't work, she just shrugged. This was just fun, not a challenge.

Phoenix, however, had been expecting an extinguishing spell. So when she brought up her wand, he pushed with his mind against an extinguishing spell that never came. The blanket of flame spread, as if it were being poured from above them onto an invisible surface.
He noticed Isabella walking toward them, and smiled at her, though he didn't greet her yet, since he really didn't want to raise his voice enough to do it yet.
