As random as the wind

[Flyte Vance]

'..probably..' Flyte laughed. She looked at Oryn with a smile.

'You are right, we are all just meeting and getting to know one another... I'm just not sure how to deal with this - when Mary doesn't know about me, us.. the moonlight boudoir..' Flyte laughed at herself. always romanticising everything aren't you Flyte? she shook her head.

'What happens when you have to choose Oryn?'

"Then I hope that by then, my decision is easier?" he said, shrugging in admission. "Right now? As strange as the thought is to me, I don't want to have to choose, because I think that someone will get hurt if I do. I... worry about her," he said, and was, yet again, astonished to realize that this was true. What would father think if he saw me now...

[Flyte Vance]

'worry about her? As in Mary? Or the girl who doesn't get chosen?' Flyte mused. 'You are probably better off with Mary, being in the same house and all... '

Flyte struggled inwardly with all this information, sorting it out, understanding it and trying to reach a logical conclusion. She barely came up with an illogical one before she remembered what Mary had told her about her relationship with Oryn and just how far she had let him go - or he had let her go... the line was fine with Marz.

'What are your feelings on me seeing Josh?' Flyte pondered the notion before she realised that she had said it out loud.

[Oryn Vance]

"About Mary," he said, remembering the difficulty he'd had getting her to eat... and what he'd seen in her mind. "And about the girl who doesn't get picked, but her specifically." He shook his head.

"And... well, remember your indignant display a few minutes ago? That's nothing compared to what was going through my mind at the party," he said, answering her question about Josh.

'Whats wrong with Mary?' her voice was concerned for her friend, not being in the same house was a nuisance sometimes.

She looked at Oryn earnestly, feeling his trepidation and hesitancy.

[Oryn Vance]

He frowned. "Maybe nothing, maybe everything... but... well, maybe it's just something about me," he admitted, thinking it over. "Have you... well, ever seen her eat?"

[Flyte Vance]

'No but I haven't see you eat either..' Flyte considered what he said, and knew what he was implying. 'It makes sense Oryn.. she is insecure and young.. she's trying to fit in and thinks shes in love with you..'

Flyte took Oryn's hand and looked at him seriously.

'I know that this whole situation isn't helping, I am sure that she senses something between you and I.. ' Flyte bit her lip and steeled herself to say the next part. 'She needs you more than I do Oryn..'

Oryn quirked an eyebrow. "What does she need more... someone to validate her, or to find her own strength to get past her problems?" he asked pointedly. "What does she need less, someone to feel that she needs to impress, which may be a bit... couterproductive, or a rejection that is only reluctantly given?" He shook his head. "There is no easy answer." He quirked an eyebrow at Flyte. "Unless this is a convenient means of getting rid of an inconvenient, 'slimy' boy?" he asked, smirking slightly.

'God yes, you don't know how I have longed to rid myself of you Oryn..' Flyte teased mercilessly. 'The fact of it is that there is no easy way for this to happen but if i let you go to her and she feels secure with you, which I know you can make her feel... then it will be a step in the right direction for her.'

Flyte sat down on the grass, her head in her hand, thinking about what was right, wrong and otherwise.

The right thing to do isn't easy but I am stronger than Mary and thats all there is too it. Until she can stand before me and tell me that me being with Oryn isn't hurting her - I just need to be strong and put my foot down.. no matter how hard it is..

"Do you really think that her basing her strength on me is something that will be healthy for her?" he asked. "To be honest... I was thinking that this is probably something one of her friends would be better suited to help her with. One of her friends that she doesn't seem to have a thing for. Even the right thing won't help her if it's not something she does for herself."

[Flyte Vance]

Flyte looked up at Oryn with chagrin.

'Of course I will help her... I didn't mean to make this all about me...' Flyte stammered. 'There is no question that I will talk to her about it, none at all...'

Flyte sighed, her head was starting to hurt.

'Sometimes its just hard to know the right thing to do..'

[Oryn Vance]

Oryn sighed and nodded. "I know what you mean." After all... the WRONG thing is always much easier to identify.

He shook his head, putting one arm around her waist, pulling her a bit closer. "Much easier to identify are the courses of action that I know I don't want to take," he said.

[Flyte Vance]

Flyte let herself settle against Oryn's side. It was comfortable and right, and she would have to give it up for her friend.

'That you don't want to take?' Flyte questioned him.

[Oryn Vance]

Oryn nodded. "That would be any course of action that makes me give this up," he said, feeling how comfortably she fit against him. He looked down into her eyes, brushing his fingers over her hair, as he had the other night.

Flyte sighed, no longer knowing what was more important, which way was up or down and whether or not she should care.

She watched Oryn's face and knew he meant it, meant everything. She reached up and ran her lips across his cheek.
