Jasper turned around to see Leah frown and accelerate to join the rest. He looked at Christian and smiled. "I know there are but we're almost there. See?" He motioned to the small track between the trees. They only had to walk for the next five minutes when the trees separated to form a large circle where in the middle stood the large old house. JAsper chuckled when he felt Leah's surprise and intimidation. "It's alright. You're safe here" He said pushing the door open

Christian snorted at that. Jasper was his friend but he couldn't help but still hold a strong prejudice against the Kinney's. He didn't feel safe here and there was nothing that Jasper could do to change that. He slowed his steps as they walked up the path to the large house, his bottom lip caught between his teeth.
"Oh Chrissy stop with the dramatics and keep up.." Alice sighed loudly as she left Jasper's side to skip up the front porch steps. "You are probably one of the safest people to walk through these doors. No one is allowed to ever touch a Tait and that's an order, no matter how delicious you smell."

"Chris..." Jasper stopped and turned to look at him. "I know it's still hard ot believe but we're a family now. And we don't eat family members. Not to mention that only Owen feeds on humans and never at home. So please trust me. You really are safe here and so is Leah" He nodded before turning around again and walking down the corridor to the living room. Amelia and Owen were already settled on the sofa
"Family?" Leah repeated after him quietly. She stopped at the door when she saw the strange couple on the sofa. She nodded shyly
"Yes. A family. Remember when I told you about my brother Aidan and his wife? Christian here is her twin" Jasper explained

Christian ignored him, stopping in the door of the living room next to Leah and rubbing her arm reassuringly even though he wasn't so sure. "I don't think I can be counted as part of the family. I'm just the angry jealous twin brother of the bride." He mumbled. "Go on and meet your new parents. I'm good right here.."

"Yes, you can be counted as part of the family Christian" It was Owen who spoke the words. He got up and walked to him and took his hand shaking it. He did the same to Leah and then leaned to kiss Alice's kiss. "It's good to see you again" He smiled then turned to Jasper. He embraced his adopted son then sood quiet for a while just looking into his eyes and reading the whole story in his mind. "I'm glad you're back son" He finally smiled.
"Thanks dad" Jasper nodded. He walked to Amelia and kissed her cheek before waving at the others to join them. "Mom, Dad, I want you to meet Leah. I met her in Texas....where I'm from" He announced with a happy smile. Finally he knew the truth about himself

"No way" Leah barked grabbing the sleeve of Christian's shirt and pulling him with her. "you're not leaving me alone here" She tensed when Owen Kinney took her hand. She remembered he was the one feeding on humans. She didn't understand his smile or when he told her not to be worried. "come on" She pulled Christian with her as she followed Jasper into the living room. She nodded at Amelia smiling nervously. Such a beautiful woman. Did they all thave to be so pretty?

Christian tensed, a grimace etching itself clearly across his face as Owen took his hand. Why couldn't they leave him alone for once and just accept that not everyone had to like and trust them. He followed Leah into the room obediently, always staying at least two steps behind her like the coward he was and leading her over to the sofa the farthest away from his new in-laws.
Alice rolled her eyes at the fearful humans, standing up on her tip toes to return the kiss to Owen's cheek before dancing over to Amelia's side. "It's good to see the both of you too." She smiled. "I'm sorry I haven't been back to visit you sooner..mum." It felt strange calling her that.

Leah sat next to Christian still tugging at his sleeve nervously. Normally she had no problems with stress and strangers but they were vampires and even though she got used to Jasper it was difficult to get used to the idea that there were more of them and that she'd be living with them. At least till Christian would get his apartment. If he really wanted to share it with her

"Hello Sweetheart" Amelia said hugging Alice before listening to Jasper's story. "Texas?" she asked with surprise. Oned wasn't surprised he already knew the whole story.
"Yes" Jasper nodded. "I started in Kentucky and the trails led me to Texas. I found their story there. And their house. The one where I was born in. Or rather what's left of it" He sighed. "It was burned. Apparently someone was looking for them. I also found the houses they grew up in. I still donn't know though why they had to leave Texas." He stopped for a moment then turned back to Leah.
"I was already in Texas when I met Leah. I'll let her tell you the whole story. What I want to say is that I didn't want to leave her there. She deserves more"

Christian listened to his story silently, keeping his eyes locked on her fingers playing with his sleeve. It was comforting knowing that she was nervous being in their presence. It meant that he wasn't the only crazy one that hadn't fallen completely under the Kinney's spell, yet. He had his doubts with this one, she would betray him too. "Texas?" He mumbled. "Surprising.."

It was Leah's turn to speak. "Yeah, Texas" she said quietly. "Apparently Jasper was born in Texas. That's what we found in the documents in his grandparents old house. And that's where I was born too." She took a deep breath. "I grew up in a typical muggle family. Or rather a good, God-fearing family." She grimaced remembering her parents. "We lived in a small town and everything was fine till I reached the age of eleven and got my letter from the Salem school. My parents couldn't understand it. They called me freak and said I was insane like one of my grandmothers or her sisters. I can't even remember. And so my parents disowned me" She stopped when Jasper called for a house elf and asked for tea. She smiled at him gratefully.
"I'd spent school years at school and holidays in an orphanage. But one day I was too old for it. After my sixth year I dropped school. It didn't make any sense anymore. I needed a place to live and some money" She looked down when she reached the sensitive part of her story. "I lived in an abandoned house. And the money...well you'll understand how I got it when I say how I met Jasper. I was trying to steal his wallet. I was good at it and obviously I'd succeed. If he was a human. But even though he couldn't see me he sensed me. And caught me. But instead of pulling me to the nearest police station he offered me a new life"

"Come here my southern beauty.." Alice purred, smiling proudly as she reached her tiny arms out in invitation for him to come to her. She may not like Leah very much but she was proud of him for helping out a woman in need. Whoever said the vampires were monsters when her own Jasper was the perfect example of good.
Christian accepted the tea that was offered to him by the house elf though warily. It was mostly just for the excuse to have something to do with his hands. He had already heard most of this earlier but the guilt had already settled back into him again. He had no right to pout over his own pathetic life when others had it far worse. At least she was being offered something better.

"Me or her" Jasper purred too smiling contentedly. He was only teasing as he knew perfectly who she was talking about. He walked to her and sat down on the floor nestling his head in Alice's lap. He wrapped one arm around her leg and smiled. "I think Leah needs a better start. I thought she might move in with you and decide calmly what she'd like to do with her life, though Christian popped in with another idea. He thinks Leah could share the apartment with him and Brooke. I like this idea. No offense dad, but it's safer than here. You know I don't trust our friends" He stated looking at Owen
Owen nodded but he didn't say anything. Amelia was the one to speak nodding quickly. "Of course you can stay with us for as long as you want. And don't listen to them. This place is safe. They only have meetings on fridays but you'll stay with me then."
Leah smiled shyly. "Thanks. I appreciate that. But if you don't mind...I'd like to accept Christian's offer. So I'll stay here only till he finds his own place and I get a job" A job. That sounded weird. She'd never had a job before. But she couldn't steal here. Jasper made it clear what he'd do to her if she tried that again

"Hmm..since you don't know then I guess I'll just say her" Alice teased, nudging him with her legs as he sat down on the floor in front of her. She ran her fingers through the messy blond hair in her lap. "I like this idea too. She' be better living on her own with a human and Christian really could really use the company." There were other reasons why she didn't want Leah staying with the Kinney's but she didn't voice them in fear of sounding selfish.
"And I know the perfect place for you to get a job." Christian stated, ignoring Alice's claim of him needing the company. She was right but he didn't have to admit that out loud. "You can work in my father's store. I'm supposed to do it but you can take my place until I come to my senses, as my father likes to put it."

"The manor was the only possibility I had to offer when I met her but Christian's idea sounds reasonable. Especially with the job. Good control is one thing but instinct is another and who knows what pops into Claire and Willow's heads when they come home" Jasper agreed rubbing his cheek against Alice's knee and smiling contentedly when her fingers touched his hair
Leah nodded quickly. She heard a few stories about Jasper's sisters, though she kept forgetting the names and messing the stories. But she knew that those two were real vampires with no control. She looked at Chris when he made his offer. "Really? I could? And your father wouldn't mind it?" That would be great. "What kind of a store is it?"
