The Professor watched as his class organised themselves behind their rugs. He didn’t appreciate having to tell them to do something that would have seemed so obvious to even the most vague of Hufflepuff students. He walked back and forth in front of the blackboard as if he were a general calling his army to order.
“Charms,” he started, probably a little louder and more stiff then he would have aimed to do so, “Are some of the most commonly performed magic in this world, some of the most common because a lot of people see them as easy, but in my class you will see that the reason the daily charms are so easy is because people do not push the boundaries with charms and their possibilities, and that is what you are all here in my class to do, to push the boundaries,”
He noticed the Slytherin student arrive late but said nothing on the subject while he was addressing the class on more pressing matters, “You might wonder exactly why I have not found pleasure in seeing you skulk into my class and sit on the rugs that have been laid out for you, I will prove myself answerable to my actions once and once only, no other time will you question my actions, do I make myself clear?” his eyes crossed the classroom imperiously before he continued.
“These rugs, fortunately for you, have not yet had any charms placed on them, which is why none of you are currently harmed, this is because today we shall be bewitching these rugs, in the future however, you will be supplied with instruments that have already been bewitched so that you might learn how to remove such charms,” he said looking around, “So for those of you whom find it difficult to understand English, I will summarise, the reason you are not to just clumsily stumble upon things I lay out in this class is because next time you might not be so safe doing so,”
“Do I make myself clear?” he said cutting across a student who began nodding, “No, I asked if I made myself clear, not, do you know how to nod your head like a lazy house elf, you will all answer, Yes, Professor Ruberagon! Now, do I make myself clear?”

The rug below her lay flat and plain and was not up to Annika's taste. WHen the professor explained that charms for his class would be getting involved in pushing the boudaries, Annika's perception for the subject changed. She always knew that Charms would not be as hard as Defense Against the Dark Arts, but after a few secnds ago, Charms was almost as hard as, or even harder than DADA. She felt the shivers ran throughout her body and she was surprised at this since it had been such a long time she felt that way. Somehow, to professor managed to make an impact on the whole class through the way he spoke.
She kept her attention to Professor Ruberagon's words and nodded, then realised it was a foolish thing to do, said,"Yes, Professor Ruberagon!", just the way he wanted it.

Audrey stood steadily in front of her rug. She looked at them when the professor mentioned about bewitching the instuments before the students handled them. This will be a hard year, she thought. Audrey kept a mental note in her mind to check the things the professor laid out to them the next time she stepped into the class.
"Yes, Professor Ruberagon!" replied Audrey when he disapproved of certains students nodding.

Krutika listened to whatever Professor was saying with slightly narrowed eyes. "Do he knows difference between charms and hexes, will he bother to make it clear that what does he mean? Charms or Curses?" she thought angrily; she was not pleased with his way, "The way he is speaking, it is more like a DADA class." If only he have been a bit polite to students, she would surely have find more respect for him, but she thought she did not like him much.

Estelle approved of the way the professor handled the class. Strict, straight to the point. Unlike before, she was sure this class would proceed smoother and for the better now that he was in charge. However, she still noted that she missed the casual atmosphere that usually took place in a Charms class. She pursed her lips. Well, you can't have everything.
She nodded her head and said "Yes, Professor Ruberagon!" just like he wanted them to.

Professor Ruberagon nodded in approval for the classes obedience, though when everyone was finished answering him, he noticed a Ravenclaw student had not, “As Miss Krutika Gehi feels it inappropriate to do as she is asked, that will be five points from Ravenclaw for disobedience, I would have expected a lot more from a Ravenclaw,” he gave her a deathly look of disapproval before continuing.
“There may be times when all of you might disagree with the way I conduct this class, though let me tell you once and once only, it is I who specialises in this subject and I alone who will know just how difficult and dangerous each days lesson might be, in this you trusting my judgement or not is besides the point, if immature behaviour is what you seek to present in this class,” his eyes dwelt on the Ravenclaw for a moment, “You will be joining me for detentions,” it was a threat this one time only, a warning, he didn’t had a detention to the girl, but felt his warning had gotten through to the rest of the class.
“Alright, let us begin,” he walked towards the black board and tapped it. A piece of chalk flew up to the top of the blackboard and began taking notes as he spoke. This, he believed, was warning enough that the class should be taking notes also.
“In your first year, you should all have learned the levitation charm, recite it for me now, please” he commanded as he stood at the head of the class looking more stern then ever. He understood he might be telling off someone in his first class, he did not, however, expect it to be a Ravenclaw.

Estelle nodded her head. She certainly did not want to get on the wrong side of this professor. She recited the charm along with the rest of the class.
"Wingardium Leviosa," she said, aware that the professor was watching.

Professor deducted five points from Ravenclaw - why? because she has not said Yes as he had not made himself clear to her.. and next time she is going to get a detention if she is not going to silently obey whatever Professor is saying whether it will make sense to her or not. While giving his lecture, which was sure was mainly for her, he has looked at her for a moment, and she has made sure to look back at him in eyes and not to break eye contact herself. She looked equally stern. Professor begin the lesson and asked them all to recite levitation charm. if you say so she muttered under her breathe before reciting it with rest of the class. Still, she has not let go of her stern look; she did not want Professor to have any wrong idea that she was taken aback and afraid of detention, it was just that she was serious about her lessons.

“Very good,” the professor said as he began to circle the room, “Wingardium Leviosa is the levitation charm performed by a magical person to cause an object of their liking to fly, though in this, we don’t perform Wingardium Leviosa on a magic broom every time we want it to fly, now, do we?” he continued circling as he said this, he didn’t expect his class to watch him walk around the room, but he wanted to ensure unwavering attention from every aspect, “Though we also know, that if a broomstick is damaged to a certain degree, that it will lose its magical essence therefore losing its ability to fly,”
He came to stop at the head of the class and did a swift little wand movement, “Accio Broomstick” he chanted in a level voice. The cupboard of to the far side of the classroom shot open and one of the most dilapidated broomsticks you ever saw came flying out of the cupboard and across to him where it however four feet above the ground expectedly, “This,” he said for affect pointing at the broomstick as f it was something amazing and new, “Is one of the oldest broomsticks this school currently has in its employ, it is so old in fact, and so unworthy of being ridden that it has not seen the outside of the Quidditch storage shed for longer then any of you have been alive, and I will show you why,”
He walked around the broomstick, studying it for a moment, a little while longer it appeared he had nothing more to say, then quite suddenly he raised his wand and set fire to the twigs poking out the back of the broom at irregular levels and intervals. He watched it for a moment longer and then watched it fall from where it hovered, it had barely hit the ground when the fire suddenly went out. The broomstick however could no longer fly.
“The enchantment on this broomstick is now quite gone,” he said as he kicked the broomstick, it didn’t so much as wriggle, “This is because the enchantment is place on this broomstick when it was solid and whole, now it is missing quite a bit, and even before I set light to it, was already quite damaged, now of course it is so far gone the enchantment no longer exists, however,” he waved his wand over the broomstick and uttered a few choice words, it sprang to life and however four feet above the ground yet again.
“A damaged vessel, but one that now holds a full and whole enchantment, this broomstick could carry you around the Quidditch pitch with the speed of a firebolt,” he said looking at the broomstick knowing full and well he would never get on it in public, “However, while it can fly, that speed would cause this physically diminished piece of floating rubbish to fall apart further, which would again caused the enchantment set upon it to diminish entirely,”
“Now can anyone tell me why an enchantment would work better on this broomstick, rather then a common levitation charm?”

Krutika raised her hand, "Levitation charm is used to make objects fly, but the case is slightly different when it comes to a broomstick. I mean, by leviation charm we can make it fly - just like that. But just making it float in air will not be enough to ride on it. I mean, it will definitely need a much more stronger enchantement, which will enable the person flying on it able to control it, i.e. speed, direction and very importantly, when he wants to fly it and stop it." She waited for Professor to confirm whether her answer was right or wrong.

Adelaide snapped back into the world. She had been daydreaming ~I've really got to stop doing that. It's certainly not good for class. But the spells we're doing now are so remedial...~ Never the less, she quickly joined the class in saying, "Wingardium Leviosa." She knew she could have easily performed the spell silently, seeing as she was a seventh year, but she assumed the professor would want to hear the correct pronunciation regardless...and she certainly didn't want to lose Ravenclaw anymore house points.
As she half-listened to the professor she let her eyes wander around the room. It was a rather small class, and she was the oldest there...as far as she could tell. ~That's a bit odd, isn't it? Wow. So, here's my chance to feel like I've gotten put into a class because I'm not good enough for the rest. Aren't there anymore NEWT students?~
She heard the professor ask a question and she snapped her attention back to him. Just as she opened her mouth to answer, Krutika did. ~Well, at least it's another Ravenclaw.~ She listened intently to her answer...curious to see what the Professor would say. It wasn't exactly how she would have put it, but it had the gist.
Adelaide stifled a yawn, knowing that if the Professor saw, he wouldn't be too happy with her yawning in class. She hadn't gotten much sleep the night before (she had been up late reading), and was paying for it now. She made a note not to do that again, especially before Charms. ~If I remember correctly, we used to have quite a bit more practical application of Charms...where we'd actually get to practice the spells...and we haven't yet. Well, I'm sure Professor Ruberagon knew what he was doing.~ She'd just have to wait to see what he had planned. ~Too bad I'm not a legilimens....~

((My apologies Cabery, but could you please refrain from posting in colour in this class forum, some of us find it difficult to read in contrast with the dark background, the standard white would be appropriate))
“Yes…” The Professor said slowly as he heard Krutika finish, “A meandering explanation but one I will accept as correct, you are right of course, but the rest of the answer would have covered concentration and ongoing effort, you see, when something has been enchanted, it can continue to do whatever it is you have enchanted it to do for long periods of time, a good example of this, and possibly the most powerful, and yet seemingly unimportant would be that special ability magical pictures and paintings have,” He said flicking his wand at one of the paintings he had by his leg. The woman in the painting smiled and waves out at them, before transferring into a siren beast and starting to scream at them all silently.
“This painting, like so many others in this castle and beyond in the magical world, will continue to smile and wave, and torture us from the confines of their canvass due to a magical enchantment put on them when the pictures are completed and developed,” he said letting the painting float back to the ground. The sirens face was covered by the painting beside it, but anyone looking might have seen she was nor giving them all a very crude hand gesture.
“As an enchantment, it will last for a very long time, and will need very little maintenance to endure the ages, if it were a simple charm however, you would see it where off very quickly, and the painting would be no more interesting then a muggle painting,” he said stepping away from the paintings.
“Now, who would like to volunteer for the next part?” he asked looking around and noticing a bored looking Ravenclaw, she seemed to be hiding her boredom, though very poorly, “You perhaps, Miss Tewksbury?”

((Dreadfully sorry. I'm afraid I'm quite used to posting in purple..it's become habit. I shall now attempt to break the habit))
Adelaide smiled as Professor Ruberagon announced that Krutika was correct. ~I'm glad we don't have ditsy Ravenclaws...but then again, why would we? That certainly wouldn't add up. We're Ravies after all.~
She watched as the professor pointed to an enchanted painting and told about the enchantments that were placed on them. He finished talking about the paintings with The painting would be no more interesting than a muggle painting. Adelaide blinked.
~No more interesting than a muggle painting? What is he saying? Muggle paintings are perfectly interesting...they find their own ways to make it interesting. Creativity, that's their kind of magic.~ She felt herself beginning to lose her temper. ~Adelaide, no. Calm down. He didn't mean anything by it...just that it wouldn't move anymore...~ She took a deep breath.
Hearing Professor Ruberagon volunteer her for the next part, she shook her head and answered shortly. "I'd be happy to volunteer sometime, but I'd like to know what I was getting myself into before I do, if you don't mind. I like to be prepared..." She shocked herself at her tone. ~Adelaide! What's gotten into you?!~

Estelle turned her head to look at the older Ravenclaw. She was shocked anyone would even think of saying such a thing to a professor. Usually, all a student would say in response was a simple 'of course' or a meek smile.
Not that.
Then again, she is a seventh year. Estelle shrugged slightly. She waited the professor's reply. If she didn't want to volunteer, Estelle would be more than happy to. A chance to earn points for her house was something she wouldn't pass.

((Sorry I haven't been on for a while. School stuff!))
"Wingardium Leviosa!" shouted Annika. She hoped the professor was watching her. She syill felt guilty over her attitude sitting on the rug. Annika herself was a little mad at Krutika for disobidiency towards the professor, but shurgged it off when Krutika tried to answer the professor's questions. Annika watched closely when the professor demostrate the spell on the old-worn-down broomstick, and the paintings. The woman really did make Annika surprised. She hated moving paintings and never liked it. The professor had ask Cabery, a seventh year Ravenclaw to volunteer. Annika awaited what would happen next.
