Adelaide jumped a bit at Veritas's enthusiasm. "Well...just be careful." She nodded as he suggested magically cleaning it before he ate it. Though, how he could think it looked tasty was beyond her. It looked absolutely disgusting to Adelaide. She watched silently as he ate the entire mass of gillyweed. ~Goodness~, she thought, ~I hope that was gillyweed. Who knows what could happen if it wasn't...~ When nothing happened she spoke again, "Why isn't anything happening? That was Gillyweed, right? You didn't go eating something that looks like gillyweed but isn't, did you? Because that certainly wouldn't be good." She looked worriedly at Veritas, hoping that it was indeed gillyweed and the response was just a bit delayed.

Veritas tried to answer, but suddenly found he couldn't. He choked on his breath. Good thing it was becoming easier to tred the water, because otherwise the difficulty he was having breathing might have sent him under. Come to think of it, it had become a LOT easier to tred the water. *I've got fins!* he realized with another shiver of excitement. He noticed that Adelaide was becoming more and more worried looking by the second. He glanced at her one more time to assure her he was alright, then plunged without hesitation into the depths of the lake. It was amazing! He had become a fish! Well not really, but it sure felt like that to him. The sensation was incredible! He could see things he had never been able to see from above the surface. There were so many colors! It felt like everything was gleaming with its own light, radiating the most wonderful illumination all around. The fish and other creatures eyed him cautiously, but he showed that he was not a threat. He had only been down for a few minutes when he decided the experience would be much, much better if only he had someone swimming with him. He quickly rose back to the surface, found some more gillyweed, then swam back over to Adelaide. He kept his neck below the water so he could still breathe, and lifted the hand full of gillyweed up to his friend.

Adelaide sighed a sigh of relief when she saw Veritas was fine. ~Thank goodness. I don't know what we would have done if it hadn't been gillyweed. I don't even want to think about it.~ She smiled as she watched him disappear under the surface, happy that he would be able to get to explore as he wanted, and that she didn't have to...or so she thought.
At this point Veritas resurfaced and brought gillyweed to her. "You can't be serious?! I thought we already discussed that I didn't have a desire to? You can't possibly want me to come under the water with you?" She sighed again, this time because she knew it would be pointless to argue. Perhaps it wouldn't be too bad if she wasn't on her own. "You'd better be glad I have a sense of adventure." With that, she took the gillyweed from his hand and, wrinkling her nose, dropped it into her mouth.
Adelaide, unlike Veritas, did gag. She couldn't help it; the slimy mass slid down her throat in a most disgusting way. "Down to the depths of the lake, I suppose...." Taking a deep breath, which she soon realized she didn't need, Adelaide ducked under the water. It was beautiful. The way the colors reflected off the plants and the sunlight made its way through the water was purely fascinating. Everything around her seemed to glow with a bright light, making the more prominent features of the lake even more prominent. Grinning, she turned to look at Veritas; Adelaide was glad she had come.
[[hmm. Can they talk under water?]]

[[no... it'll make it more interesting if they can't ]] Veritas grinned back at Adelaide, and then motioned his arm towards a particularly bright spot in the depths of the lake. His robes billowing behind him in a mystical way, he began swimming like a frog towards the area. On the way down, he saw a few more tiny creatures scurrying away, then peeking back at them from their dark hiding spots. He smiled and turned his gaze back to the bright spot he was headed for. It was amazingly surreal, being down here. He had never even scuba dived into non-magical waters, so there was no way he could have been prepared for the completely irrational waters he was now in. He turned his head to make sure Adelaide was coming too.

[[okay. no talking it is then.]]
Adelaide began to swim toward the the bright spot Veritas had indicated, but was soon distracted by the many things to see around her. Small schools of brightly colored fish swam by, and Adelaide was fascinated. Things had never seemed to hold such vivid colors. Her hair had escaped her ponytail holder, and now it gently floated behind her. ~I feel like a mermaid. What with my feet being fins and being able to breathe underwater. OH! I'm like Ariel!~
After having a really good look around her, she turned back to see where Veritas was. Upon seeing he was quite far ahead of her, she quickened her pace to catch up. As she neared the bright, glowing spot they were both heading toward, she began to have a rather funny feeling about the place. Why did it glow when the rest of the lake didn't? Surely that wasn't normal. ~It can't be anything bad. The lake's perfectly safe, right?~ Adelaide tried reasoning with herself, and effectively talked herself out of being uneasy. It would be fine. When Veritas looked behind him to make sure she was following, she smiled, assuring him she was and swam closer. When she was within a few feet of the spot, she stopped. There was an odd humming noise coming from it, and her uneasiness returned. Perhaps they shouldn't go any closer. She turned to look at Veritas, wondering if he heard the same thing...

Veritas continued his swim to the extra-glowey area, then heard a beautiful humming sound coming from what seemed like all around them. He glanced back to see if Adelaide had heard it too, but she was looking worried. He stopped and turned to face her, and motioned his hands to ask, "what's wrong?"

Adelaide motioned toward the glowing area that was humming, trying to impart the fact that it seemed rather unnatural for it to be humming. She then motioned away from it, suggesting that perhaps they should leave it be. Who knew what they might find if they continued closer. Part of her wanted to know what it was, but another part knew that it was at the bottom of the lake for a reason. She bit her lip gently as she waited for Veritas to answer...or respond rather...unsure as to what to do.

Veritas turned his head to the bright, humming area, then looked back at Adelaide. He couldn't exactly figure out what the problem was, but he at least understood that she really didn't think they should go that way. *Ok,* he thought, *There's tons of other stuff we can explore anyway.* He shrugged and nodded for her to see he was fine with going somewhere else, then motioned for her to choose which way to go. *Her hair sure looks pretty, bilowing behind her like a mermaid,* he thought unconsciously.

Adelaide sighed, as much as one can sigh underwater, relieved that she didn't have to go any closer to the bright light. She couldn't shake the feeling of uneasiness it boded. She wrinkled her nose in thought. ~Hmm. Where should we go? Well...as far away from here as possible would be a good place to start.~
She motioned for Veritas to follow her, and she started away from the light. Glancing back to make sure he was coming as well, she sped up. As she arrived at the opposite end of the lake, she looked around to see that there was a small coral reef. ~A coral reef?!~ she thought, ~in a lake? How peculiar.~ Nonetheless, that is exactly what it was. As the brightly colored fish swam around, she grinned at Veritas, curious as to what he thought.

He smiled back at her. *This is pretty...* he thought girlishly to himself, before shaking the thought out. *Yeah, it's ok...* he corrected himself. He started to swim around it, inspecting it more closely. There were all kinds of magical creatures here. It makes sense that it would be fully inhabited by magic creatures, since it is indeed a coral reef in the middle of a lake. He watched in awe as a small collection of bauble fish played with some empty shell they found lying around, as if they were tossing a ball in their backyard. *this is amazing...*

Adelaide was perfectly happy in the coral reef. It was unlike anything she had ever seen...colorful, beautiful, busy. It was magnificent! She started around the reef, searching for anything interesting...not that everything wasn't interesting...but perhaps something more amazing.
She came upon a school of seahorses frolicking in a field of seaweed. ~They're just like the horses we have in fields...just...under the sea.~ Smiling to herself, she swam on further, looking for even more things. She came upon several small objects that looked quite a bit like houses. ~Could it possibly be a little village?~ As a few brightly colored fish swam out, she squealed in delight...or as much as one can squeal when underwater. ~How adorable!~ Drawing her attention away from the fish, she looked around. She had ventured away from Veritas and now wondered where he was... ~Oh, well, I'm sure he's found equally interesting things. I do believe I'll stay here a bit longer before going to look for him.~ Turning her attention back to the group of fish, she smiled. It certainly looked like they were friends gossiping about the town. ~How very like humans.~

Now Veritas was gazing dreamily at what appeared to be a Town Square, with little chairs on an elevated pedestal made of coral. *Almost like a little Greek city,* he thought. He lost track of Adelaide but didn't worry too much about it... from what he could tell, they had succesfully found a safe area of the lake. He wandered around the reef a bit longer, and then found a-- *what?* He did a double take. *wow...* he thoght to himself, now staring properly at the miniature but glorious Colosseum he had found. It was empty for now, but clearly it was a popular gathering spot for large crowds. *What funny little "chairs"...* he thought, for the stands were really more like holes in the walls rather than steps to sit on. *I guess the fish fit snuggly inside those little holes to watch the entertainment...* But then Veritas shuddered to think of just what type of entertainment goes on here.

Adelaide had settled in a spot, completely mesmerized by the adorable fish in front of her. What were they thinking? Did they have complex thoughts like humans? Surely, they did for how else could they appear to be so deep in conversation. Suddenly, they shot past her head. ~What in the world?!~ Curious, Adelaide turned, following the fish, wondering where they were headed.
Winding through seaweed and coral, she followed them closely. As she rounded a corner, Adelaide caught sight of Veritas looking at a small building. Well, small for a human, but rather large for fish. It appeared that it was where the fish were headed. Adelaide swam up to Veritas, and gestured at the structure, trying to see if he knew what it was.

(sorry I've been gone a while)
He couldn't really indicate to her that it appeared to him to be a fish colosseum, so he just widened his eyes and nodded his head to be like, "yeah this is kinda cool." Then he turned back to the colosseum, and was surprised to see that is was filling up with fish! Rather quickly, at that. He watched, amazed and still a little horrified as more and more fish and eels and all kinds of magical underwater creatures gathered in the little seats. The structure, now that Veritas thought about it, was enormous, compared to the amount of fish it held. In fact, the bowl-shaped structure was about the size of a large bath. He looked over at Adelaide to see what she thought of it.

[['tis quite fine. We all disappear now and then. Welcome back!]]
Adelaide shrugged in response to Veritas's response. She still had absolutely no idea what it was at which she was looking, though now saw the fact that it would be slightly impossible to convey what it was through gestures. She turned her attention back to the structure. Her eyes began to widen as she saw the vast numbers of creatures piling in, some of which she didn't even know the name!
One seahorse swam into the center of the building, and almost immediately the creatures quit moving. It was if he...or she...was calling attention and announcing something--something exciting it seemed for suddenly the fish moved as one and then, just as suddenly they stopped. ~Is it a meeting of some kind?~ Adelaide tried to reason with herself. A meeting made sense...she had a funny feeling though that it wasn't something quite so civilized.
Adelaide looked back at Veritas, who appeared to be trying to see what she thought of the strange meeting. Her brow furrowed and she put on a look of utter confusion, for, indeed, she was just that, utterly confused. She wasn't quite sure that he could impart any information through gestures that would make her any less clueless...but who knew?
