Adelaide rose from her bed and walked to the window, throwing it open. Initially, she shivered as it was a bit chilly out, but soon she was used to the temperature. Her gaze wandered from the tree tops of the Forbidden Forest, to the Quidditch Pitch. She noticed herself squinting for the sun was bright, regardless of the heat it was producing. ~Today would be a lovely time to take some much needed rest by the Lake. I do believe I shall do just that.~
A short while after, she was heading down to the Lake, clothed in an old pair of soft, slightly worn, jeans (for whom knew what would happen at the lake. It was always good to wear clothes that could be parted with when one went near.), and a sea green fitted tee-shirt. Adelaide had a sketchbook tucked under her arm, her wand behind her ear, and drawing pencils in hand. Having pulled her hair back into a ponytail, she was pleased to see the ends weren't whipping her face. ~Wouldn't it be nice to just once have a day without crazy wind?~
Smiling, she continued until she was at the shore of the lake, quite free of slime...and sat down. She pulled off her shoes and set them to the side before scooting closer, allowing the water to just lap at her toes. She closed her eyes briefly, savoring the touch of the sun's rays. ~What a marvelous day.~ Adelaide's eyes flicked open as they searched for something to draw. ~What a pity...no students out for a break today. How odd. Hmm...so, no live subjects at the moment. The lake's always a pleasant place to start. A good warm-up.~ Resolving to draw the lake at the moment, and certainly find a live subject to draw later, she picked up her pencil and set it to the paper. Intent on capturing the essence of the lake...but not quite sure that would happen. She could at least try...

"Hey, Cabery," said Veritas, siting next to her on a dry patch of grass. He was proud of herself for remembering her name... then again, he watched for her reaction to make sure he got it right. He had plenty of classes with her, but only talked to her in passing. "You drawing?"

Adelaide jumped a bit as someone sat down beside her. She had been completely engrossed with her drawing, oblivious to the rest of the world, and was rather startled. As she heard herself, yet again, called by her first name, her nose wrinkled out of instinct. "Adelaide please!" She paused, realizing that may have sounded a bit angry...it wasn't mean to be. "Sorry, it's not that Cabery isn't correct; it's just that I absolutely detest my first name. So, if you could call me Adelaide, that would be marvelous."
She then paused in her drawing to look up to see who it was she to which had been talking; she didn't know the person by voice. As his face came into view, she searched her memory for his name. "Veritas...." She nodded, assuring herself that it was indeed the correct name, and turned her head back to her drawing. "Hello to you as well. I am indeed drawing. Very poorly, I might add. It's been ages since I've had the time. What brings you down here?" She continued her drawing, hoping he wouldn't think her rude; Adelaide just didn't like to stop a drawing before she finished. If she did, she could never pick back up in the right spot.

Veritas let his hair fall in his face and he looked down at the lake. "Sorry..." he mumbled. "Actually, I came down to draw too." He pulled out the recent sketch of his Iguana to show her. Then he turned a page to begin a new picture.

Adelaide shook her head slightly. "No, it really is fine. Just Adelaide from now on..." Again, she turned her head when he said he came to draw. "Really? I don't think I've met that many people to draw around here. I'm normally the only one who comes out on a cold day to sketch. It's nice to finally have some company."
Looking back out on the water, she sighed slightly. The sun had moved a tad and her angle was completely gone. ~Oh well. It's time to move on to something else anyhow...Perhaps a...OH! I wonder...~ She bit her lip, wondering if Veritas would object too much to her sketching him. It had been quite a long time since she had a subject to sketch who wouldn't move too quickly...Hmm. Well, it didn't hurt to ask. "I have a slightly odd favor to ask of you...Would you mind dreadfully if I did a sketch of you? It's been such a long time since I've been able to draw someone who would sit still. If you sketch something...and then I sketch you sketching, would that be okay?" She turned back to her sketchbook awaiting his answer, cursing herself silently at how stupid she had made herself sound. But, it was a legitimate question. She just hoped she wouldn't scare him off...that's what usually happened when she asked to sketch someone. A random excuse would be made, and they would leave. Well...perhaps another artist would understand...

"Sure, if you think I'm a good enough subject," he said with a sly smile. *Silly Ravenclaw* he thought to himself. He took Puddle, his Iguana, out of his bag and set him on his knees. He rested his sketchbook against his knees and settled against the tree to draw Puddle from a new angle. The breeze picked up a bit, and Puddle stared back at Veritas. He felt that today just got a little better.

Adelaide grinned. "I think you may have just made my day!" She turned from the lake to face Veritas, folding her legs so she was sitting cross-legged and resting her sketchbook on one of them so the light would rest on the page. Flipping to a new page in her sketchbook, while looking through her drawing pencils for one of the ones she always initially used, though it was quickly discarded for another, darker one. Gently, she picked one up and set the tip to her paper. She began to make a light sketch, and as she did so, she began to talk again. "So, do you generally draw your Iguana? I find that most people have a subject that they like to mainly draw...is your Iguana yours?" She felt the breeze pick up, lifting her hair into the air, pulling the tips toward the lake. Adelaide ignored it for now; it wasn't bothering her...and it wasn't likely that her hair could be knotted with such a small breeze.

"Yeah, I love drawing my Iguana. Sometimes I make her little paper hats to wear, too..." he trailed off. "Puddle's her name. She's not a very active pet most of the time, so she's easy to capture on paper, I guess. Do you have a favorite subject?" He turned his head to watch her answer the question. Whether or not they were looking back, Veritas just liked to watch people as they spoke to him.

Adelaide tilted her head as she drew, surveying her drawing as well as thinking. "It would be nice to have a pet to draw. But, alas, I tend to let my pets go and come as they please...and none of them have been very...inactive, shall we say." She looked back up at Veritas when he questioned her and was a bit taken aback when she saw his head turned. She had expected him to be drawing, and it threw her a bit. "My favorite subject? People, no question." She laughed. "Not that many people will sit still long enough for me to draw them. But when they do, people are definitely my favorite. Followed by landscapes. I love bodies of water. The way light reflects off of them is occasionally challenging..." Satisfied with her answer, she returned to her drawing.

"Yeah," he said, also returning to his drawing, "People are fun to draw. I dunno so much about landscapes... they're mostly just nice to look at. I'll draw animals whenever they sit still long enough. They get interesting, depending on how varied your supply of animals is..." He added some shading to his drawing. They had been sitting there for quite some time. He finally let Puddle down to catch some food for a while. Even though his neck was starting to hurt, he continued to draw, now adding a tropical background.

Adelaide nodded in agreement. "I've always had some sort of attraction to landscapes. I've no idea why." She abandoned her darker pencil, switching once again to a lighter one, this time adding highlights. Her brow furrowed gently as she surveyed her drawing. Then, she smugged a line or two with her finger, blending the highlights and shadows together carefully. Once again, she took in the full of her drawing. ~Well, it's actually not too bad. My, how fascinating. I haven't sketched in months; it seems that time doesn't take away skills, contrary to popular belief.~ She set her pencil down, and looked up from her drawing at Veritas. "I do believe it's finished. It's not perfect, but what art is really ever perfect?" She held out her sketchbook to let him see her drawing. "Some of the shading is a bit off...but what do you think?"

"Wow." That's all he could say. He felt silly for having been proud of his own art work after seeing hers. "That's amazing," he finally uttered. "I can tell you've been at this for a while. Especially since you have that entire pencil set and everything... and here I am with just a regular pencil. Ah well, I guess we're not all meant to be Picassos." He smiled and eyed her carefully. "Did you do some of that with magic?" he teased.

Adelaide looked back at her drawing, blushing slightly. "You really think it's good? I suppose we're all a bit more critical of our own work than others..." She titled her head, studying her drawing. "I suppose it turned out fairly well...I have been drawing for quite a while. I believe I got my first sketchbook when I was seven. I fell in love with it then. It's one of my favorite hobbies. My family always gets me art supplies for presents, so I have amassed a good collection. These pencils are my favorite though." She smiled. "Of course, I didn't use magic. If I had then my hand wouldn't be quite so cramped." She grimaced as she rubbed her hand, trying to relieve the cramp. "Okay. Now I get to see your drawing!" She smiled again, waiting patiently to see his work.

Smiling, he tilted his sketchbook so it was facing her but still catching the light the right way. He looked back at Puddle, who was sitting on the edge of the lake, facing the water with his mouth open and tongue at the ready. He looked back over at Adelaide and said, "I tried to make her seem dangerous in her natural tropical habitat, but I don't think I really managed it. She just always seems happy to me," he finished cheerfully.

Adelaide studied the drawing, taking in every aspect before saying anything. "I think you managed to make her seem slightly dangerous...though, I must admit, I've always been a bit frightened of iguanas...But I think it's a lovely drawing." Setting her sketchbook to the side, she stood, stretching her legs. She had been sitting for quite a while, and they were beginning to become stiff. "How long have you been drawing?"
